Elm – Home Learning

This year homework will be a little different, activities will be given to the children on a Monday and they will have the week and weekend to have a go at things. The activities will include:

*Regular reading- please ensure your child’s book and log are in school everyday.

*Spellings/ Sentence structure- sent home via dojo’s- the children will be given spellings on a Monday and tested the following Monday. These will be common exception words, some of which your child maybe able to spell in isolation but this year involves the children being able to spell within a sentence they have constructed independently. (each child will have a spelling book with their spellings in to practise please can we ask these are in school on a Monday)

*Number work using Numbots/ TTRS and Maths passport objectives.

*Phonics practise and games

*Please record/take photos of your children doing these tasks or any completed work and add to their portfolios on Class Dojos.

Our Maths focus will be using and applying Numeracy skills within the real world. We

want the children to understand how Maths is used in the world around them so any hands on and practical activities can be fun.

Some hands on activity examples:

  • Visit a shop and allow your child to buy something using the correct coins
  • Find numbers in the supermarket
  • Use items from the kitchen to weigh/measure or order in size

Time (reading o’clock and half past), days of the week and months of the year are also very important things for your child to learn.

We understand that you have very busy home lives but any home learning you can attempt really does help the progress of your child.

Thank you for your support in this.
