Yew Class
Welcome to Yew Class!

Our class teacher is Mrs Heald and our Teaching Assistant is Miss Carter in the mornings. We are also supported by Mrs Bennett and Mr Atkinson in the afternoons. Additional adults in our class are Miss Bickerstaffe, Mrs Evans, Miss Atkinson and Miss Shvets.
On a Wednesday afternoon, we have R.E. and P.S.H.E lessons with Mr Atkinson and Mrs Fedusio.
In Year 2, children are encouraged to work more independently and to begin to take more responsibility for ourselves. This is a very important part of their education, as well as their social and emotional personal development. As part of this development, they change their own home/ school reading books in Yew Class once they have thoroughly read and discussed them at home. Raffle tickets will be issued for every 3 reads at home and 5 winning children whose tickets are drawn at the end of the half term can wear their own clothes for a day.
Children in Year 2 should begin to try Times Tables Rock Stars in order to learn their 2, 5 and 10 times tables. They are encouraged to play for at least 20 minutes per week.
As we are very short of space in classrooms and cloakrooms, book bags should be used for carrying home/school readers and these will be kept in trays in the classroom.
Healthy snacks may be brought into class, along with clearly named water bottles.
For PE lessons, children should wear black shorts/ leggings/ tracksuit bottoms, white T-shirts and black hoodies plus trainers. Long hair must be tied back and earrings must be removed or covered.
To help us out around school, please ensure that all children’s clothes and belongings are very clearly named.
