Y3 – Maths

You need good mental calculation skills to help you in all areas of maths and you should practise mental maths skills daily. This includes counting on and back in different amounts; number bonds to 10, 20, 100 and beyond; adding and subtracting 2-digit numbers and multiplication tables. Numbots and Hit The Button are useful for practising different areas of maths

Multiplication Tables

You will need to be fluent in all your multiplication tables to twelve by the end of Y4. The harder you find them, the more you need to practise! On leaving Y2, you should already have recall of 2, 5 and 10 times tables and be able to say your 3s and 4s. By the end of Y3, you should have recall of 2-5, 8 and 10 times tables. You can use the “Times Table Rock Stars” website to help you practise.

Knowing your multiplication tables will make many aspects of Maths No Problem easier, like fractions, number patterns and problem-solving.
