Y4 – Reading

Reading books and journals are expected to be in school every day as they are checked at random.  A minimum of one comment per week should be evident in reading journals. These comments should display a deep understanding of the book read. Parents will receive comprehension style question prompts to help support children at home with reading. It may not always be necessary to change reading books once finished. Children should ensure that they spend time evaluating the books at home and answering questions that show a clear understanding.

It is important that dates and page numbers are added every time the book is read. This is the main way in which we can monitor that children are reading regularly at home. The comments in reading journals should be only by children. If an adult at home wishes to make a comment, they may do so however this is not required in Year 4.
