Y3 – Reading

Regular reading at home continues to be the major part of homework. Please keep reading as often and as widely as possible. The more you read, the better your own spelling and writing will become so be sure to collect interesting words and phrases that you come across and find out the meanings of new words.

You will need to fill in the comments section in your home/school reading journals when you finish a book or at least twice a week if you are reading a longer book to tell us how you are getting on. Although you might be reading more fluently and independently, you must still read with an adult to discuss the text that you are reading to develop your comprehension skills and vocabulary.

It remains your responsibility to change your reading book as and when needed during the week, although we do encourage quality rather than quantity to help the development of comprehension skills. You will move reading levels when you are ready and not when you have read a certain number of books!
